Most pets readily respond to and welcome the Reiki energy since it is very gentle, warm, and relaxing to them. They seem to intuitively recognize or understand its ability to help them heal.
Some pets prefer that the practitioner place their hands right on them for the session. Laurie has even had animals push the area they need help with right into her hands.
Other pets might be more comfortable receiving it either from across the room or from a distance though. For those animals, Laurie simply sits on the floor with her palms resting in her lap and sends the energy. This allows the animal to establish a distance that is comfortable for them.
How Can Reiki Help Pets?
Since Reiki works on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels, it is able to support the healing of a multitude of issues by promoting the following:
*Pain reduction and relief of other physical symptoms
*Accelerates healing of illnesses and injuries
*Eases the side effects of chemotherapy and other treatments
*Enhances deep relaxation and stress relief
*Aids abused and neglected animals in moving beyond those issues
*Eases abandonment issues for animals left at shelters or rescues
*Calms aggressive animals and those suffering from other behavioral issues
*Assists animals in their final days of life so they pass on peacefully
How Do You Know Pets Are Accepting The Reiki?
As a Reiki Practitioner, Laurie can tell from the flow of energy in her hands. However, pets do offer several outward signs of acceptance that can be observed.
*An animal may sniff, lick one or both of her hands, or they may rub against them as well
*They may either climb into Laurie's lap, lean against her legs, or even lie across the room, but they will generally enter into a deep state of relaxation almost immediately
*She has had animals rest their heads or paws in her hands or even lie flat on their backs once the energy starts flowing
*Animals (especially horses) may also start yawning
Most owners are able to detect unusual changes in their pet's behavior during a session which validates for them that the energy is being received. As always, it will be different for each animal being treated.
How Do You Know When A Pet Is Through Receiving Reiki?
Generally an animal will signal an end to the session by either waking up if they had fallen asleep or by moving to another activity if they were just in a relaxed state.
Laurie has noticed that cats tend to stand up and stretch; then move away. Occasionally they may groom for a moment afterwards as well.
Dogs may get up and leave the room, get a drink of water, or decide to play with a toy. Occasionally an animal may wander over and "thank" Laurie by gifting her with a lick or a kiss. That's her favorite part!
IN-PERSON PET REIKI
Laurie is available for in person Reiki with pets in the Atlanta, GA area.
She will travel to your home and conduct a session for any number of pets that you like. In her experience, she has learned that the best setting for Reiki with animals is at home. They will be more relaxed in their own familiar environment which leads to a better session for them.
The length of the session depends upon the animal(s) being worked on... or is decided upon by the owner before the session begins.
Some animals may only wish to take a little of the energy while others may enjoy a full hour session.
When offering Reiki to a group of animals,it is quite common that some may take quite a bit, some just a little, and some none at all. Each animal will be different.
Laurie can also offer Reiki to your pet at your veterinarian's office to help support the healing of illnesses, injuries, surgeries, or other issues. She is also happy to offer it to pets being boarded as well.
This will need to be approved by the veterinarian or owner of the facility in advance.
Although Reiki can be a wonderful healing modality on it's own, it is used to complement regular veterinary care, not to replace it.
Here are a few animal hospitals that are in Laurie's service area:
Lanier Animal Hospital
Sugar Hill Animal Hospital
Animal Hospital of North Gwinnett
Animal Medical Center of Cumming
Suwanee Animal Hospital
If you do not see your veterinarian on this list, please call or email. She will consider traveling but fees may vary based on distance and time.
ONE HOUR SESSION: $50
She regularly donates her services to shelters and rescue groups. If you have adopted an animal from a shelter or rescue group and would like her to send Reiki to your companion for two weeks to help them settle in to their new home, please email a photo with the animal's name and age. If no photo is available, you can either call or email her with the name, age, and description of the animal.
She will add your new pet to her Animal Energy Healing Circle free of charge.
Laurie's dream is to work with the animals at the Georgia Aquarium and Zoo Atlanta!
